These are based on the famous bellarmine type jars and bottles much beloved by witches for use as spirit houses and protection magic. Like the traditional bottles each has a face that has antlers, depicting the old forest gods iconography, a stopper with a skull, and a small handle, we've added an eye too to ours as you can never have enough protection from those negative energies! These particular bottles are hand thrown on the wheel and are glazed in a traditional shino glaze to stoneware temperatures to give them that genuine archaic look.
Bellarmine bottles were first mentioned in written records in the 17th century, when they were used specifically when someone believed they had been bewitched, to turn the curse back onto the witch. Later they were often used for general protection, rather than to retaliate against a specific curse and were originally filled with things like pins, thorns, hair and nail clippings for counter-magic to reverse the evil eye. today its perfectly acceptable to use them as you so wish!
