A totem is a sacred/magical object and for many of us there is a certain animal that we are inexplicably drawn to. This cat spirit is made by hand in stoneware clay, carved with the Eye of Ra, an ancient Egyptian symbol representing the intense, fiery power and royal authority of the Sun God Ra. It is a mighty and even destructive version of the evil eye, offering a particularly strong form of protection. It has been fired twice and coated in a matte-black glaze that has been hand-painted on to give a rustic and aged feel.

We’re all drawn to different animals and the concept of spirit animals resonates strongly with many of us. In shamanic belief systems, spirit animals—often called power animals or animal guides—are an example of the living manifestations of animism.

The cat spirit guardian symbolizes fierce independence, heightened and attuned intuition, an aura of mystery and the advantage of living life on your own terms without seeking approval. It teaches self-reliance, grace under pressure and the courage to explore the unknown or trust your inner voice. The cat is a symbol of overcoming hard times throughout life, hence the nine lives they are said to have. They were sacred to the Egyptian goddess Bastet, seen as a symbol of luck and prosperity across much of East Asia and, in Celtic lore in Scotland, as the Cait Sìth, which was thought to be a witch who transformed into cat, never allowed to transform more that eight times for on the ninth, the witch would remain a cat.
