Elder Futhark Runes set

Hand made, carved and inlaid Elder Furthark with one blank rune set created in Black Clay, inlaid with a red glaze, comes with a black velvet bag.

In Norse lore, the god, Odin, impaled himself with his own spear and hung on the world tree, Yggdrasil, for nine days and nights in order to seek the wisdom of the runes. The runes were symbols and messengers that sprang from the Well of Urd – the source of fate, wisdom and holder of the infinite knowledge of the nine realms. Odin hung between life and death, forbidding the other gods to help him, and his sacrifice was enough for him to be given the powerful insight that the runes possess.

Since childhood, runes have fascinated and seared there way into our psyche, and we are warmed to see Norse belief systems re-entering our lands and belief systems once again.  This set is the Elder Futhark. We created it first and foremost for ourselves, because most other sets on the market did not appeal, and felt far to processed and cynically made to be used as meaningful oracles. We wanted rustic black runes with a red glaze inlay as these align with our ways. Its believed that the earliest runes were painted in blood, and turning mud into ceramic is the worlds oldest magic after all.  These runes were made to be used and handled, not just to look pretty.
