These small bowls are equally at home bedside or altar. They are an ode to the spirit of the Oaks; the Dryads, the Oak King, the Greenman and the wild woods. They are completely handmade here at Hedgebound England. Each bowl, leaf, face and acorn is is unique; marked and sculpted using traditional methods, no moulds are ever used to create our faces.
The bowls are hand thrown prior to applying the decoration. These slowly made piece are impossible to reproduce on mass, each is a one of a kind. The bowls are glazed in a Japanese Shino glaze which draws out the leaf and acorn details beautifully and gives the piece an aged feel. The face is left unglazed but for iron oxide, which is used to pull out the facial features, against the foliage. The bowls are fired twice, first at 1000c and secondly at 1160C. Both firings lasting over 48 hours, helping to give the pieces that wonderfully buttery aged finish that defies its modern creation.
