Black Horned Spirit Totem Cup and Ring

This black-hued spirit totem, as with almost every piece here at Hedgebound England, is completely unique. Individually handmade at every stage, from a ball of raw clay (no moulds), fired twice and covered in a unique cocktail of glazes that are nigh on impossible to reproduce thanks to a combination of chemistry, kiln gods and no record keeping! We think this gives them their own spirit and personality in the same way every tree, flower, pebble and creature is so very different. On its front is a cup and ring mark which are often found in cave and stone markings across the globe with many located here in the UK on the moors. Their precise meaning remains unknown but they date primarily from the Neolithic period through to the Early Bronze Age between 6000 and 3500 years old.
