Small Sgraffito Sun and Moon Folk art Bowl

This lovely folk-art bowl (about the size of a small oriental rice bowl) represents the sun and the moon internally and the rays of the sun expressed on the outside.  It has been created totally by hand, and is made to look so.  We are fans of the handmade and unique, not the mass produced and manufactured. It has a period feel vibe, but its a modern one of a kind piece. 

The technique of decoration used is sgraffito, a process of applying an underglaze to clay that is leather hard, then carving into it to and removing parts of the clay and glaze to create an image that is not too dissimilar to a wood cut print, but unfortunately, unlike woodcut that can be printed repeatedly this is a one off process. 

It makes an ideal bedside ring dish, or can be just used ornamentally if you don't want to hide its motif.
