Spirit Mouse

These anthropomorphic creatures are handmade in stoneware, fired twice and glazed in Japanese shino. Their faces are layered with pigment and then highlighted in a transparent glaze in order to animate their eyes. They each have a small pocket on their back in order to present them with an offering, be that a note of help or feathers and flowers.  

They’re inspired by the way many humans often have a look of a specific animal, frequently one they are obsessed with. In fact, it’s often more than a look—it’s mannerisms and movements.  The same goes the other way too; when you study animals closely, they have such massively diverse personalities with parallels to human behaviour. So yes, they are a way of expressing the same spirit, different coil.
