These little witches are adorned with the triskele, a symbol of three swirls, an ancient symbol that originated in pre-Christian Europe. Evidence of it can be found on artifacts of the European neolithic bronze age with continuation into the iron age, especially in the context of the Celtic traditions, and the symbol has been revitalised with the rise in pagan worship as many see it as symbolising earth, water air, whilst others as mother maiden crone.
You'll find ancient symbols repeated in much of our work, there is something so comforting about them, connecting us back to the universal source from which we come. Our witches each have two small offering pouches and are fired twice to stoneware temperatures of 1160c, totalling 96 hours in the kiln in order to achieve their wonderful shino glazes which draw out their details and give them a wonderfully ancient look just like their triskele symbol that adorn them. Like all our creations they are one of a kind folk art pieces with their own expression and personality shining out from within them.
