Our goddess is an expression of reverence to the land, nature, myths and life on earth.  We're never quite sure how much of her symbolism we should share, to some people it doesn't matter, to others it helps them connect to a piece.

She is created in a very heavy black clay and is then coated in a thick white slip which is a liquid clay that dry's slightly differently in terms of shrinkage so her surface is given an aged appearance when the reality is the structure of the clay body has no cracks at all.  The slip was then carved into over her body and her body tells a creation story; a couple dance around a sun on her pregnant belly whilst the tree of life's roots encircle her, flower and fauna grow from her fertile body.  From her feet and up her legs vines grow upwards encircled by serpents.  Historically, serpents and snakes represent fertility or a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. The serpent is a symbol of eternity and continual renewal of life and are also seen as a guardians of plant knowledge.  Her hair again reflects the concept of serpents and knowledge and her body is marked all over with protective sigils to keep her essence guarded.

After her first firing coloured pigments were built up in layers to illuminate her body. She was then glazed and 1240c degrees, then the antlers which are removable for packaging are then added.

We've not seen another piece anything like her, she has massive presence and we love her, we hope she finds a home that has a connection to her.

Please note: because of technical reasons, colours might appear different on your screen. Please also note that our items are hand made and are not "perfect" in every sense. They will bear the marks of the handmade pottery creation process that is missing from mass produced items.
